How To Set The Proper Recording Level For Voice-Over
May 04, 2023
Adjust the input gain on your interface to achieve your recording level. Using your daw to adjust the file level after recording is not a solution. Your goal should be to reach as high as possible while NEVER peaking over -6db (on your peak meter). If it seems low, turn up the volume of your headphones. A recording level that averages between -18db and -10db on the peak meter is healthy. Lower is OK, but never over -6dB on your peak meter.
I illustrate the concept further in one of my videos if you're still unclear.
