What is a custom voice-over processing preset?

A custom processing preset for your voice-over is a series of plugins explicitly tuned for your voice in your room and on your microphone. To compete in today's voice-over world, you must ensure that your demos, auditions, and voice recordings (products) are extraordinary. Voice-over artists from all over the world compete for work at every experience level. However, if you don't have a professional sound, you will lose out to someone who does.

A custom processing setting from Lenny B can take your audio presentation quality to the level necessary to compete with the pros. Instead of taking it upon yourself to tweak the parameters like EQ, Compression, DeEssing, you can hire a professional voice-over audio engineer to create it for you. Once you have the custom preset on your system, you’ll boast "The Sound" every time you press the record button. The investment pays for itself. Here are some of the top reasons why a custom processing preset is a good investment:

  • Custom processing gives you confidence that your voice sound is competitive.
  • Custom processing allows you to outshine the competition, win more auditions, and get more work.
  • Custom processing lets you focus on your strengths, leaving more time for marketing and less time stumbling with engineering.

How much does a custom preset cost?

I need to diagnose your equipment, system, and raw audio sound before I can adequately give you a price quote for your custom processing preset. Once I clearly understand the work that needs to be accomplished, I will happily send you an itemized quote for the cost of your custom processing preset. There is no charge to demo the sound of your custom-tuned preset. As a result, you can get an accurate idea of how the finished product can genuinely optimize your voice-over sound at no cost. However, you will demo the sound of your custom-processed voice-over for free. I often give free advice on how your recording process might be improved.

Can I demo my custom preset sound before buying?

The first step is to fill out the form and send me an audio sample of your voice according to the instructions. Once you submit your voice for processing, I will let you know if your audio recording quality needs improvement. Some issues prevent the processing from improving the audio quality. If your production quality needs improvement, you will be offered suggestions to help identify and resolve any issues before being asked to resubmit after improving the audio. Alternatively, if your audio recording quality allows the processing to enhance the sound, you will receive a sample of your custom-tuned processed sound to review for free.

What if I want to change the sound of my preset?

The custom processing preset for voice-over is a series of plugins that manipulate the audio to produce the best sound possible. Your custom-processed sound is based on the sample of your voice submitted, your microphone, the room (space) where it was recorded, and the microphone position. If one or more of those items change, your custom preset won't deliver the intended sound.

What if you decide to adjust (or tweak) the sound after the purchase? No problem. Revisions are available immediately after installation. Additionally, once you live with your preset and get time to work with your new and improved sound, you can request that the setting be revised until you are delighted. A small fee may be applicable. The goal is for you to be utterly in love with your sound and, more importantly, be confident.

Will the preset work with different types of reads?

The custom processing preset for voice-over is a series of plugins that manipulate the audio to produce the best sound possible. You may be wondering if the preset will work with different style reads. For example, will it handle a soft, detailed audiobook passage and a loud, in-your-face auto commercial? The answer is yes! Your custom processing is designed to reveal your clear, authentic voice. It’s not intended for them to hear the processing. However, if you want something specific, processing strength levels, modifications, alternatives, and special effects are available upon request (additional fees may apply).

What if I need to send a client an "unprocessed" version?

Another common question is, "what if my client requests an "unprocessed" version of my voice recording?" Again, the "Tone Only" strength level is what you should use in that situation.  A typical custom preset use case for voice-over artists is to send an audition for a job using the "Full Processing" or "Mild Processing" versions. These two strength levels are also commonly used for posting demos. Then, once a job is acquired, a "Tone Only" version is sent as the final recording. (Strength levels are not included in the Basic Preset Package)

What type of plugin configurations can be used?

My preferred basic plugin configuration package includes two (relatively inexpensive) Waves plugins that are compatible with most professional DAWs. These include the F6 Floating-Band Dynamic EQ and the Scheps Omni Channel by Waves. These two plugin tools offer tremendous detailed control to improve the voice-recorded sound. This plugin configuration is ideal for most DAWs, including Audacity, Adobe Audition, Reaper, Studio One, and other supported host applications. Waves plugins are a great combination of quality and value. Additional plugins may be suggested and necessary to achieve an optimized sound. You are responsible for the separate cost of the plugins. Specific plugin requests are available, including stock DAW plugins, Universal Audio plugins, and others. However, additional fees may be charged for the custom setting.
