Turning a Closet into a Pro Studio: Processing Voiceover with Adobe Audition
Oct 20, 2025
If you've ever crammed yourself into a closet surrounded by hanging clothes, hoping it'll magically absorb those pesky echoes, then this post is for you. In my latest YouTube video, I take a raw voiceover clip from Sergio Velozo—a talented VO artist based in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia—and transform it into broadcast-quality gold using nothing but Adobe Audition's stock plugins (plus a quick nod to iZotope RX11's Mouth Declick, which he already owned). No fancy gear upgrades, no breaking the bank on third-party plugins—just smart processing to elevate his sound.
Sergio reached out, frustrated with his setup: an Audio-Technica AT875R shotgun mic feeding into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface, recorded in a packed closet with clothes for "treatment" and a mattress barricading the door against outside noise. It's a classic DIY hack, but the raw file? Boxy lows from reflections, subtle fan hum, and mouth clicks that could distract. I improved it all, and the before-and-after is quite striking.
